The Air Medical Memorial Groundbreaking

Mike Eccard, RN/EMT-P
Crash Survivor and Air Medical Memorial Honoree Officer
Presented By David Macy

Hello everyone from Oklahoma. First, I want to say how sorry I am that I cannot be there in person. Unfortunately I have had to undergo multiple surgeries that aren’t allowing me to travel. I am, however, very much there in spirit.

I want to thank each of you for your support, and for participating in the groundbreaking of this amazing memorial. At only 11 months out from the crash that took the lives of my partners Ryan and Al, I haven’t yet come to a full understanding as to why my life was spared that day. I do, however, believe with all that is in me, that God does have a plan. Although I’m not fully aware of all the details in this plan, I know in my heart that the Honorees of this memorial sit at His side smiling down at the foundation of unity that is being laid here today.

On July 22nd, 2010 my life was forever changed. That evening the Air Medical Memorial was immediately transformed from an important, inspirational cause of awareness in our industry’s culture to a very personal tribute to my friends ... my partners ... my fallen brothers. I now share the frank reality that exists with the other friends, family, and crews of the over 350 angels that we are here to honor. In the past, there has not been a structured avenue to pay our respects to those killed in our line of duty. Today, however, with the supporting embrace of our industry, communities, and so many loving supporters we now have the opportunity to celebrate the lives of our fallen within our very nearby grasp.

The vision behind the Air Medical Memorial is not one of dwelling on our industries past failures, but that of honoring the dedication of those who sacrificed everything while living out their passion; the passion of coming to the aide of the sick and injured. Today we shine the spotlight on the importance of remembering our fallen brothers and sisters.

We will NEVER forget.
